Wildfire-conscious construction looks at the entire environment surrounding a structure. CAL FIRE's home-hardening guidance recommends reducing combustible fuel pathways and using noncombustible or ignition-resistant materials in vulnerable exterior areas. California's Zone 0 work focuses on the first five feet around a structure.
Do not just rebuild the house. Think about the property around it.
This fence was installed by Aluglobus in Altadena in 2020, years before the devastating Eaton Fire. After the fire, the surrounding landscape was almost unrecognizable. Homes on both sides of this property were destroyed. The aluminum fence remained standing and intact.
This image is more than a project photo. It is a powerful example of why the materials surrounding a home matter. Aluminum is noncombustible. Unlike combustible fencing, siding, attachments and other exterior materials, aluminum does not become an additional source of fuel that can carry fire toward a structure.
No fence, cladding system or single building material can guarantee that a home will survive a wildfire. Home survival depends on many factors, including the intensity of the fire, embers, wind, construction methods, roofing, vents, windows, defensible space and the materials surrounding the structure.
But every combustible material you remove from around a home is one less potential fuel source.
That is why we believe wildfire-conscious rebuilding should look beyond the house itself. Consider the entire exterior environment:

Extruded Aluminum Pergola vs. Coil Aluminum Patio Cover. They may both be called “aluminum,” but they are NOT built the same.
One of the biggest differences is something most homeowners never ask about:
Many roll-formed and coil-style patio cover components are manufactured from thin aluminum sheet. Depending on the system, you may see material around the 22–24 gauge range.
Our structural extruded aluminum patio systems use profiles with walls up to 0.125" thick, or a full 1/8".
To put that into perspective:
The easiest way to visualize the difference?
Think about a SODA CAN.
A soda can gets much of its rigidity from taking very thin aluminum and forming it into a shape.
Extruded aluminum is completely different.
The aluminum is pushed through a die to create a substantial structural profile with material exactly where the system needs strength.

This is another reason material selection matters, especially in wildfire-prone areas.
Solid aluminum does not act as additional fuel for a fire the way combustible exterior materials can.
Both thick extruded aluminum and thin aluminum coil can eventually lose strength and melt under sufficiently extreme temperatures. Aluminum melts at approximately 1,220°F.
The difference is that our heavy extruded profiles contain dramatically more aluminum than thin coil material.
When you're comparing products for a fire-conscious home, don't simply ask:
